Stakeholder Collaboration for Mental and Behavioral Health
Goals
This cross-cutting workstream establishes partnerships with key stakeholders in our use-inspired setting of mental and behavioral health (MBH). We leverage these partnerships for stakeholder-engaged design for safe and trustworthy AI assistants; and generate core principles, evaluation methods, and design principles that govern the ways in which AI assistants can be designed, deployed, and tested in different MBH contexts.
Current projects
Convening stakeholders for participatory design
Convening a network of stakeholders – researchers, patients, clinicians, families, policy makers, and advocates – to enable participatory design engagement between ARIA researchers and those on the frontlines of MBH issues.
Empirical studies of AI use for mental health support
A longitudinal study to understand how people use AI assistants for companionship and mental health support by following users from a variety of backgrounds as they interact with assistants over the course of their daily lives.
Participatory design playbook for ARIA
Creating a process by which stakeholders help ARIA researchers establish initial requirements, continuous evaluation and iterative improvements for systems and governance frameworks in the MBH space.
